About SEEDS
Safety, Economic Empowerment, Development, and Support
The SEEDS (Safety, Economic Empowerment, Development and Support) Program is the first phase of a state-funded anti-gun violence initiative that seeks to provide pathways to employment for young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 in targeted City of Rochester neighborhoods: 14605, 14606, 14608, 14609, 14611, 14613, 14615, 14619, and 14621.
RochesterWorks! in collaboration with the Monroe County Department of Human Services and Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce will facilitate the SEEDS Program through December 2021 with a target of 50 participants.
Participants will be placed with one of our partner employers throughout the City of Rochester and Monroe County. Positions are guaranteed for at least ten weeks, with the opportunity for full-time permanent work at the end of the program period. All jobs will pay at least $15.00 per hour.
In addition to job placement, participants will also receive pre-employment coaching from program staff, enroll with TES Staffing for additional job placement opportunities at the conclusion of the program, and work with staff to identify needs such as banking access, financial literacy, transportation, and other support services.
SEEDS represents one program that is part of a broader $16 million initiative announced by the New York State Governor in July 2021 which included an allocation of $2.25 million to RochesterWorks! to provide employment opportunities for 450 at-risk young adults in key City of Rochester zip codes. RochesterWorks! is currently working with the Department of Labor to finalize details of later phases of this overall program.
